October was Children of Foster Carers Month, a campaign ran by The Fostering Network, which means we celebrate the children who foster too. Our participation team planned a fun day of celebrations at West Midlands Safari and Hertfordshire Zoo for our birth children and parents. This special day was all about honouring the incredible children who foster too, with open hearts, welcome foster children into their homes and lives. Together with their parents, they generously share their time, space, and love – offering so much more than just their toys or rooms. This event was our way of saying a big thank you for the warmth, patience, and kindness they show every day.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who helped make this day possible. You filled it with joy, laughter, and a true spirit of togetherness. Thank you for an amazing day filled with joy!
Luke, foster carer from the East Midlands attending the Safari Park with his daughter:
“Thank you so much, we really enjoyed the day. Feedback wise; positive as ever! We’ve been to three events now with Nexus Fostering and every single has been well organised and super fun! Great choice of venue, enthusiastic/lovely staff, and well planned/prepared! We look forward to the next one and thank yourselves and Nexus for arranging events like this. Thanks for the kind words for our daughter! Our day consisted of spending the entire morning at the safari walk and going on rides (we purchased x2 bands to go on every ride). Our daughter was extremely brave and went on a ride well outside of her comfort zone! She then won a massive toy herself on a ball throwing competition (I missed three shots; she got one in!). We then walked around all the animals, had lunch. Then drove round the safari late in the afternoon."
Melanie, foster carer from Hertfordshire attended the Zoo with her daughter:
“Thank you so much for organising the Hertfordshire Zoo trip. Our daughter had an amazing time and really enjoyed all the activities and meeting other children. We saw tigers, and the capybaras which were her favourite. We took home a fluffy snow leopard. It’s lovely to be part of an amazing team. My daughter has significant additional needs including ASC, FASD and the layout was great as it wasn’t overwhelming. She also met with Tag the dinosaur which she loved. It was a lovely day out and experience for her. "
Our children and young people are at the end of everything we do. Find out more here.
