After 22 years, we wish Tom a happy retirement and celebrate his and Ann's achievements

Tom, who has dedicated 22 years to fostering, is now embarking on a well-deserved retirement. The North Midlands team bid him a fond farewell in a heartwarming send-off.

Tom and Ann began fostering 22 years ago with Nexus Fostering and have welcomed many children and young people into their homes with open hearts. The couple achieved many milestones together and gave everything to fostering and helping create positive outcomes for children and young people. Sadly, last year, Ann passed away, which was devasting news to Tom and everyone here at Nexus Fostering, with Ann leaving a huge hole in many hearts.

Tom carried on fostering, but naturally, the time had come to an end, and Tom was ready to retire. Our North Midlands team in Telford wanted to celebrate his incredible commitment and passion for fostering, so they had a lovely send-off to wish him all the best.

Reflecting on fostering, Tom shared that ''Fostering for Ann and me has meant a lot over the years. It was so nice that we made a difference to so many children when you give them a safe home environment.

Seeing them return to family and thanking us for everything we have done makes it worthwhile.

As Ann used to say, it's our family, and that's what fostering is all about family, but the main thing we used to say to all of them is that we are not your mum and dad, just someone to care for you and guide you while you were with us.

We had 12 parent and child placements, and every one of them kept their babies as Ann told them we are not parents for the children, just someone to support and guide them for their future. Some of the mums, dads, and children have come to Blackpool to stay with us and have a break, which allowed us to continue having contact with them, which is good.''

Foster Carers - Ann & Tom

Tom and Ann's Supervising Social Worker has supported them over the years and built a lovely bond with them. Stephanie from the Telford office shared some beautiful words about her time with the foster carers. ''Tom and Ann have been foster carers with Nexus Fostering since the beginning and have changed many lives. During their 22 years of fostering, Tom and Ann have supported many children and young people, sharing their home for respite, short term and bridging placements. In addition to this, they have supported multiple parent and child placements, working with them to enhance their parenting skills and confidence. Their dedication and commitment have enabled successful endings, including independent living and reunification. The North Midlands Team and I wish Tom all the best for the future. This is not goodbye, but see you later.''
