Visiting Homeless One charity in Birmingham
At Nexus Fostering, we are deeply committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work. Recently, a Megan (Marketing and Events Executive) had the privilege of visiting the Homeless One charity in Birmingham to donate much-needed thermal gloves, hats, and socks to individuals experiencing homelessness during the colder months. This experience was not only humbling but also reinforced the importance of giving back, especially during times of hardship.
Who is Homeless One?
Homeless One is a charity dedicated to supporting homeless individuals across Birmingham. With winter quickly approaching, the charity works tirelessly to provide essential services, meals, and support to those who need it most. Their mission is to offer both immediate relief and long-term solutions to help individuals transition off the streets and into stable living conditions.
Homeless One relies heavily on donations from local businesses, organisations, and individuals. Every evening local large organisations such as Greggs and Tesco deliver food in order for them to serve food for the homeless each evening. These donations help provide basic necessities that many of us take for granted—such as warm clothing, food, and hygiene products, that are vital for those who are facing the harsh reality of life on the streets.
Why thermal clothing matters
As the temperatures drop in the winter, those without permanent shelter face life-threatening risks from exposure to the cold. Simple items like thermal gloves, hats, and socks become more than just clothing, they become lifesavers.

Thermal Gloves: Hands are particularly vulnerable to frostbite and other cold-related injuries. Thermal gloves provide insulation, helping to protect against the biting chill that can freeze fingers in an instant.

On our visit to Homeless One, we were able to see first-hand how donations like ours are distributed and the impact they make.
I was greeted by the compassionate staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to provide for the homeless. Their gratitude for our donation of thermal gloves, hats, and socks was palpable, and it was clear that these simple items would go a long way in helping those who rely on the charity’s services.
